Israeli minister doesn't rule out Jewish settlements in postwar Gaza

Israel's Social Equality Minister Amichai Chikli says he doesn’t rule out settlements in the Gaza Strip, “in certain parts where it makes sense”.

Chikli, from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, told the Israeli daily Ynet on Thursday that the Palestinian Authority would not take part in the running of Gaza after the war.

Chikli said that “thinking out of the box” was in order regarding a postwar Gaza settlement, suggesting that, for example, “Rafah can be under Egyptian control and Khan Younis under Emirati control.”

The US has explicitly ruled out any settlements in a postwar Gaza which are illegal under international law.
